World Information and Rumors

**Several small islands have been discovered to the south of Snogard Island. They are inhabited by a seemingly primitive and innocent tribe who are reluctant to allow outsiders to land on their shores. These islands are approximately 2-3 days’ sail due south. There are signs that other more civilized cultures may have had contact with these tribes as well. Whenever your people have revealed “The Mark” to the natives of these other small islands, the natives cower in fear and hide their eyes.

**One day’s journey to the northwest is a small island supposedly inhabited by a band of pirates, although this has never been confirmed. Our explorers have yet to see a harbor or lagoon that could hide a pirate’s ship. There is a small abandoned house of stone that sits atop a small rise which is visible from ship, but no crew has stepped on shore to investigate.

**Scholars have debated for centuries that those banished have been transported to an entirely different world than the one they lived on. No firm facts support this theory; however, the debate continues to this day.

**While it is known that your island is hidden from all outsiders by powerful magical spells, the occasional foreign ship does sail into one of the harbors at times. Those who have landed on our shores have promised to determine our position on their maps and return with information of the outside world. None have ever set foot on the island again.

**Some of these foreign sailors have brought tales of a ship blackened by fire which holds a crew of skeletons and is captained by what appears to be some kind of undead creature. No one has ever been close enough to this burnt ship to discover any other useful information such as a name or masthead for the ship.

**Another popular tale from the foreign sailors involves the story of a great treasure hidden on an island that appears only once every 200 years, each time in a seemingly random location.

**It has been passed down through the centuries that the homeland you were banished from held a mighty natural citadel of stone called “The Spiral.” Within this citadel, it is said, is hidden the knowledge of how life on this world came to be.

**Scholars have estimated that the main continents of this world (one of which may hold your homeland) are to the northeast, the south, and to the west. Without more accurate maps beyond the few days’ sail explorers have made, no one is positive how far these continents are from your island, what creatures and races might inhabit the continents, or which one may hold information regarding your original homeland.

**An underground river was discovered some centuries ago on the northern part of your island. Entrance to it from above had been blocked by erosion and landslides until a group of scouts found an entrance leading down into a mountain. They traveled the steep path to find a lake well below sea level before several were caught by some creature living in or near the lake. The lone man who escaped assumed there may be another entrance to the northwest where a waterfall drained into the lake. Recently, local hunters have noticed a small opening that appears to move down into the mountain above the underground river.

**A well-known scholar of the past, one Edward Ferdig, believed that all humanoid races of this world were not indigenous species, but came from their own worlds by some means of transport. Other scholars rebuked his theories for lack of evidence.

**An local orcish shaman has recently had dreams of a large pool of black liquid. In his dreams he has seen orcs crawl out of the liquid and form a large army led by a large humanoid in a flowing black robe. The humanoid figure carries a tall staff with a huge black pearl on the end. All who are touched by the pearl become dust.
