GENERAL: Uldra are in the same family tree as gnomes and dwarves, but they are a completely separate race. The physical resemblance as well as similarities in attitudes definitely reminds one of the uldras’ brother races, but the uldra have a completely different way of going about things than either dwarves of gnomes.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Uldra are about midway in height between dwarves and gnomes, averaging around 4 feet tall. They have large noses and full beards like their cousins, but their ears are significantly pointier, much like an elf’s. Their skin is fairly colorless, with a whitish-yellow complexion that allows them to blend in with snow in higher elevations. Uldra have grey or white hair that is kept to at least shoulder length, and their eyes are usually a dull gray color. Uldra also usually wear drab clothing of various shades of gray. They wear simple tunics, with colorful conical hats, and pointed boots. The average uldra lives for 900 years.

RELIGION: Uldra, much like their dwarven cousins, are highly driven by tradition within their culture. Religious leaders tend to rule smaller tribes while warriors hold similar, yet lower offices. They share a similarity with dwarves in their strong sense of justice; however, they can at times, take the more whimsical approach to certain situations, as their gnome relatives tend to do. They tend to worship deities dedicated to justice, honor, battle, and magic.

Low-Light Vision: Uldra can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light (see low-light vision.)
Hardy: Uldra receive a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities.
Illusion Resistance: Uldra get a +1 racial saving throw bonus against illusion spells or effects.
Stonecunning: Uldra receive a +2 bonus on Perception checks to potentially notice unusual stonework, such as traps and hidden doors located in stone walls or floors. They receive a check to notice such features whenever they pass within 10 feet of them, whether or not they are actively looking.
Weapon Familiarity: Uldra are proficient with long swords (and smaller swords), shortbows, light crossbows, spears, axes, picks, maces, and hammers, and treat any weapon with the word “Uldra” in its name as a martial weapon.
Languages: Uldra begin play speaking common and Uldra. Uldra with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Dwarven, Gnome, Sylvan, Terran, and Undercommon. As with all races of the island, Uldra may devote two (2) language slots to study a language not listed here.

SNOGARD ISLAND ULDRA: The Uldra were thought to be a long dead race destroyed by some cataclysmic event in the past. In reality, the race removed itself from the society of the world, choosing instead to devote their efforts to protecting the under-dark from further invasion and destruction by humankind. They are not generally an evil race; however, they chose to protect some of the evil “dark dwellers” who’s history predated humankind by many thousands of years. Their residency on the island seems to be natural as they have lived in the caves and underground caverns there since before the banished races appeared. Over the past several centuries, they too have become accustomed to these relatively “new” races and therefore treat them as “good-intentioned beings in a difficult situation.”

Regardless of how the Uldra came to Snogard, their retreat into the underworld has long since been destroyed by various natural events. What the Uldra know of that world and it’s history is hundreds of years old and may or may not be currently accurate.
