GENERAL: Elves are quite likely the oldest living race in the world after the saurians. They have lived through many thousands of years of changes to the natural world they once knew. The increasing number of humans in the world led many elves to retreat back to the deep forested areas where they original made their home. However, a large number remained within the human societies, whether to study the human ways, or to be wardens of nature is unsure. In the thousands of years since humankind first appeared, the elves have grown more fond of the sometimes whimsical humans, but also fear their destructive ways.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Elves are slightly shorter than the average human with much lighter complexion and hair color. It is not unusual for an elf’s hair color and complexion to remain light and youthful well into old age. Most elves are very slow to make friends and fully trust those outside their race, but once a friendship has been made, it is usually a bond that lasts for life. Many of the other races feel that elves act as if they are more important or better than those around them, and for the most part, those assumptions are correct. The elves have a strong bond with the natural world being the long-lived race that they are. They tend to frown upon those who do not take seriously the ways of the natural world and can be very aggressive should anyone else become aggressive towards the holdings of the elves or their allies.
RELIGION: Elves tend towards worship of those deities involved in the natural world. Deities whose power lies in nature, animals, birth, life, and agriculture tend to draw the most interest from elven worshipers. However, it is not unheard of for elves to follow gods of battle, intelligence, or magic.
Low-Light Vision: Elves can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.
Elven Immunities: Elves are immune to magic sleep effects and get a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects.
Elven Magic: Elves receive a +2 racial bonus on caster level checks made to overcome spell resistance. In addition, elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Spellcraft skill checks made to identify the properties of magic items.
Keen Senses: Elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception skill checks.
Weapon Familiarity: Elves are proficient with longbows (including composite longbows), longswords, rapiers, and shortbows (including composite shortbows), and treat any weapon with the word “elven” in its name as a martial weapon.
Languages: Elves begin play speaking Common and Elven. Elves with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Celestial, Draconic, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, and Sylvan. As with all races of the island, elves may devote two (2) language slots to study a language not listed here.
SNOGARD ISLAND ELVES: Very few elves were among the population banished, but those who were banished to the island have dedicated almost all of their time researching ancient magicks in hopes of discovering the secrets of “The Mark” and the powerful magic that hides the island from outsiders. Any original racial misunderstandings have been long forgotten as the elf’s long-lived status allows them to easily forgive past incidents of the “lesser” races.
